South Coast Botanical Garden

South Coast Botanic Garden is a 87 acre garden in Palos Verdes, originally an open pit mine from 1929 until 1956 producing crude diatomaceous.  The garden has over 150,000 trees, plants and includes Water-wise Garden, Herb Garden, English Rose Garden and Garden of the the Senses.

Henry E. Huntington, a railroad tycoon, purchased the 500 acre San Marino property in 1913 and began the creation of The Huntington Library, Art Collection and Botanical Garden.  The Huntington’s botanical gardens is divided into more than a dozen themes, covers 120 acres and showcases plants from around the world.
