Local Lighthouses

For years we have enjoyed exploring lighthouses in Maine, Oregon and Washington.  Last weekend we decided it was time to check lighthouses in our own backyard, so we headed to Palos Verdes and San Padro in Southern California.  Our first stop was Point Vicente Lighthouse.

Unfortunately we quickly discovered Point Vicente Lighthouse is only opened the second Saturday of each month.  Instead we explored Vicente Bluffs Reserve where we saw brown tailed hawks, gray whales and a lot of pelicans.  We also enjoyed Point Vicente Interpretive Center were we learned about the history of the area which included some memorabilia of Marineland of the Pacific.

We headed South to San Pedro to Point Fermin Lighthouse in Point Fermin park.  We lucked out with parking considering how busy the park was but shocked at being the only two visitors and enjoying a private tour.  We loved the history of the lighthouse and the views are incredible.

As we left Point Fermin Park we came across Lookout Point which was worth a stop as you have a great view of Los Angeles Port and all the shipping activities.
