Coney Island is in the southwestern part of Brooklyn New York. Construction began in the 1840s and between 1880’s and 1940’s Coney Island was the largest amusement area in the United States. At its height it contained three competing major amusement parks, Luna Park, Dreamland, and Steeplechase Park. In 2012 hurrican sandy caused major damage to Coney island but was reopened March 24, 2013. Currently Coney island has two amusement parks, Luna Park and Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park as well as several unincorporated rides.
