Chicago, known as the windy city, was organized in 1833, incorporated in 1837, rebuilt after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, built the first skyscraper in 1885, accomplished a major engineering feat by reversing the flow of the Chicago River in 1900, and is now the third most populous city in the United States.
