Huntington, a railroad tycoon, purchased the 500 acre San Marino property in 1913 and began the creation of The Huntington Library, Art Collection and Botanical Garden.  The Huntington’s botanical gardens is divided into more than a dozen themes, covers 120 acres and showcases plants from around the world.

Sunday River Covered Bridge

The Sunday River Covered Bridge, located about four miles from North Bethel, is better known as the Artist’s Covered Bridge.  The covered bridge was built in the 1870’s over the Sunday River using Paddleford truss reinforced with Burr arch truss, is 97 feet long and one of nine of about 120 covered bridges in Maine.
